A $175 million renovation will update the downtown Memphis Cook Convention Center. The city has opted to renovate and expand the existing facility rather than tear down and rebuild a new one, holding true to Memphis’ old-into-new development style. The interior will be updated to look and feel like a high-quality hotel alongside a recasting of the original building’s exterior with stainless steel and glass to tie in with the Cannon enter for the Performing Arts. Improvements to the convention center will also include a new glass concourse overlooking the Mississippi River, hotel quality finishes, wayfinding and technology.
