Memphis: A New Century of Development

As Memphis moves into its third century, the city is anchoring growth around its core and high- activity areas and connecting these spaces to each other. As Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland said during his State of the City speech, Memphis is focused on building up, not building out.

Building Design and Construction magazine featured Memphis as the city to watch in 2019, with executive director Robert Cassidy, a city planner and author of the book “Livable Cities” writing “Memphians are feeling a fresh wind blowing off the Mississippi, invigorating them with the possibility of a much brighter future.”

From Downtown to Crosstown, from Beale Street to Broad Avenue, and from the Medical District to the airport, billions of dollars in new projects are in the works on the cusp of the Bluff City’s bicentennial.
